The excessive weight of overly large breasts can be a burden, causing back pain and numerous other problems. Additionally, large breasts can be a constant draw for unwanted attention. Women who suffer because their breasts are overly large can have them surgically reduced with a breast reduction procedure performed at our Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas practice, The Gunter Center for Aesthetics & Cosmetic Surgery, to achieve greater comfort and better proportioned look. Breast reduction surgery is performed by Dr. Michael A. Bogdan, a skillful breast surgeon who achieves natural-looking results safely and in accordance with the patient’s goals.

Candidates for Breast Reduction

Women who have breasts that are too large for their frame are typically excellent candidates for a breast reduction procedure, as they are likely to experience continual pain and discomfort caused by the weight of their breasts. Many women with large breasts opt for breast reduction surgery to achieve a more proportioned, aesthetically pleasing figure. Breast reduction may be safely performed on adult women of all ages.

Surgery and Recovery

Breast reduction surgery is usually performed through anchor-shaped, or “lolly-pop” type, incisions made on the underside of each breast. The incision is made around the areola, in a straight line down the center of the underside of the breast, and often horizontally along the crease of the bottom of the breast. Through the incisions, Dr. Bogdan removes excess tissue from the breasts until the patient’s desired size is achieved. The incisions are then closed. After the incisions have healed and results are complete, patients usually feel more attractive have increased confidence.

Because breast reduction is a major surgical procedure, patients need to allow enough time to make a full recovery prior to returning to their normal activities. Recovery sufficient to return to work and everyday activities takes approximately two weeks for most patients. Women who undergo a breast reduction procedure must return to our Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas office one to two weeks after surgery so that Dr. Bogdan can check on their progress and remove stitches.
